Arkansas Railfan Sites
A self-guiding railfan tour
Railfan, railfan--where do you see trains in Arkansas?
Mapwork: If you're going to be looking for railfan locations, you'll need an industrial strength map resource. I definitely recommend you get a DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer, study it before your trip, and copy pertinent pages for your field work. You can find information here about Railfan Maps that are available.
BATESVILLE (July 1995)
Batesville is maybe 20 miles or so west of Newport on AR-69, and 34 miles north of Bald Knob, via US-167.
In the July, 1995, issue of TRAINS Magazine*, there was an article on the Missouri and Northern Arkansas Railroad. The MNA, at that time, operated three jobs out of Batesville. While I don't have the current data, one would suspect that this town of 9,000 folks is a pretty good place to see some shortline action and engines, with the latter especially probable on a Sunday. A local city/county map should get you to the right place. Let me have any updates you might have on Batesville, including specific street directions.
