North Carolina Frograil Railfan Tour Map
A self-guiding railfan tour
1. NS Crescent Route. This is the Piedmont Division; the route of the ex-Southern and present Amtrak Crescent passenger trains between Washington, DC, and New Orleans. The tour is complete thru North Carolina except for about 5 miles between Gastonia and Belmont.

2. CSX East Coast. Several segments are completed between Northern New Jersey and Florida. The NC portion, so far, is finished between Selma and the South Carolina border. This is part of a much larger completed portion.

3. CSX Wilmington - Atlanta. This is the ex-Seaboard Air Line, and the tour has been completed between Wilmington, NC and the South Carolina border west of Waxhaw. The South Carolina portion extends almost to Georgia.

4. NS Salisbury - New Line, TN. The S-Line between Salisbury and Asheville, and the River Line from Asheville to New Line, has been completed as follows: Salisbury - Statesville, Newton - Asheville, and Asheville to New Line.

5. CSX ex-Clinchfield. This is probably the most impressive mountain coal road in the Eastern United States. Click here for the tour.
6. NS Yadkin Branch. This is the home territory of the Webmaster, and extends from Salisbury to Halls Ferry Junction, and then over the "Alcoa branch" to Whitney and Alcoa's Badin Works. The tour is here.
7. NS TR-Line. The TR-Line between Hendersonville and Pisgah Forest offers opportunities for excellent photos. This tour primarily explores the line with photo locations in mind. The tour is here.
8. CSX Portsmouth Subdivision. Coming from Virginia Tidewater, there are only 2 locations detailed in North Carolina. However, you can expect this number to increase, as the author continuously upgrades the number of specified locations. The tour is here.
9. Aberdeen, Carolina & Western. Aberdeen to Star, a not-so-dinky shortline with an 8,000 ton corn train several times a week.
10. NS Greensboro - Raleigh. A brand new tour just started; it's complete between Greensboro and Elon College.
